Fall Is in the Air – Dreams of Tight Lines & Big Salmon
Conditions are improving, fall is in the air, and we are dreaming of Tight Lines and Big Salmon!
We’re looking forward to welcoming both new and returning guests as we head into September, including our Annual Ladies Retreat. A big thank you in advance to all the great Sponsors who continue to support this special event. What a great way to kick off September fishing here on the Miramichi!
August was temperamental again this year, with fishing success depending heavily on the conditions. When conditions were right, Salmon were landed on both wet and dry flies, using single- and double-handed rods.
We always enjoy welcoming back our longtime guest Tony Spratt from the UK, who has now fished with us for more than 150 days over the years—the most of any Country Haven guest. Tony and his fishing buddy Jason Andelo from Boston continued their friendly UK vs. USA competition for the famous Andalo-Spratt Salmon Trophy.
After spending the last two years in the USA, the Trophy is on its way back to the UK this season! After 15 years and many trips back and forth across the Atlantic, we figure this trophy has now travelled more than Axel’s dog Larry!
Now we turn our attention to September. We normally see cooler temperatures, improving river conditions and the beginning of our fall runs of Wild Atlantic Salmon. For many of our Guides, this is their favourite time of the year to be on the water. Cooler mornings, changing colours and the chance of hooking one of those beautiful Fall Salmon make September and October a special time on the Miramichi.
If you’re already booked to fish with us this fall, we look forward to your visit. If you’re thinking about coming to the Miramichi and haven’t booked yet, give us a call. And if we don’t have availability for your dates, there are a number of other good Outfitters on the river that we’re always happy to recommend.
Here’s to Cooler Water, Fall Salmon and Tight Lines!
