Frustration was the word being used by anglers and guides for this stretch on the river this week. With never ending rain high water, it made for a tough challenge to hook into fish.  High water is great for the fish, but not always so great for the angler. We have access to 26 private pools on the river system but were only feeling confident enough to fish 5 of them in high water conditions is not the least bit ideal. It is easy to complain about high and dirty water but overall it is still so much better than warm low water which we are often bemoaning lol! So we will count our blessings and be thankful for the many nice salmon that we did land in June as well as the number of wonderful guests we enjoyed from around the world!

Although fishing came to a slow halt due to the river conditions the past week, we believe we’ve turned the corner in recent days. Word on the river was that folks were starting to see more fish as the water finally started falling … and indeed more fish started showing up and our anglers started seeing and hooking both salmon and grilse. As fellow angler and friend Brad Burns said “ The run of both salmon and grilse the last few days appears to be the best late June run we have seen in some years.” Yesterday and today was a major improvement on the watershed with our guests hooking into multiple fish and many local anglers also seeing good numbers of salmon and having good success hooking fish so I guess the Miramichi salmon this year just were just waiting on Canada Day to join the party!

We will Celebrate Canada Day and welcome July with open arms and with a hand full of Blue Charms, Green Machines, Bear Hairs & Bombers as we all look forward to a wonderful summer and fall Season ahead! Happy Canada Day and Happy July 4th to our many USA clients!
