River Reports

We enjoy posting photos on our River Reports as much as possible - especially ones of 'first timers' and 'trophy catches' - but we do respect the wishes of our fishermen so not every fish landed is photographed and the safety of the fish is always a #1 priority - some are never taken from the water due to the condition of both the fish and the water at the time.

We would like to thank all the anglers who have sent us photos of their success with us in the past and hope they continue to do so in the future. Only a small percentage of fish landed have photos added to the Reports and we hope everyone enjoys them. We look forward to you seeing your photos in the future.

As we wrap up the last couple of weeks of September, fishing on the Miramichi River has turned out better than expected. Leading into the recent rainfall, conditions were surprisingly good, and while the rain was much needed, it wasn’t quite as much as we had hoped for. Some of the holding fish moved out with the higher water, but encouragingly, the past few days have brought fresh fish arriving again in the lower stretches of the river. With more rain still in the forecast, we remain hopeful for a strong finish to the season on October 15th.

Our UK group enjoyed one of their best trips in recent years, with most of their salmon taken on Dry Flies—a true highlight for any angler and always a thrill to witness on the Miramichi.

This week, we are delighted to welcome back our friends from Tight Lines Fly Fishing Shop, along with many returning guests from New Jersey. Andrew and Nancy Moy bring not only their enthusiasm but also their exceptional casting instruction, which adds to the experience for everyone fishing with us. We also welcomed anglers from across the U.S. and from Nova Scotia, all of whom shared in the beauty of salmon fishing during the brilliant colors of our prime Autumn Glory—a highlight of the fishing season every year.

Flies of choice this past week have included #8 and #10 Bear Hair, Carter Bugs, and the ever-reliable Flame Thrower.

Finally, opening day of Moose season in New Brunswick!

It’s always an exciting time—prime hunting and, traditionally, a great week for big salmon on the Miramichi. Some of our guests have already been rewarded with the fish of a lifetime.

Water levels are as low as they get, but still staying cool—perfect conditions for our low-water pools. That said, we’re still hoping for rain to bring in more fresh fish and open up the many high-water pools upriver and in the tributaries. There’s a bit of rain in the forecast, but as we all know, that old weather man is both a giver and a taker—one day a flood, the next a drought. Fingers crossed, flies in the water, and overall, with these conditions we’re fortunate to be located in the  lower stretches of the great salmon waters of the Main Southwest Miramichi.

We started the week strong:

Gary Berenson (MA) with a beauty on his very first morning.

Richard Tomlinson also landing a fine fish that first morning.

Richard Nye taking his biggest salmon of a lifetime—first morning as well!

Andrew Done landing two on his first day back on the river.

We’re grateful to have so many wonderful returning guests each season. Some years are better than others, but true Atlantic salmon fishermen are always understanding of the conditions and the luck that comes with chasing wild Atlantic salmon.

This week’s group includes guests who’ve been returning for nearly 20 years, and others here for their second trip of the season. Always a pleasure to welcome back Gary Berenson (MA), brothers Charlie & Jim Zien (CT), Richard Tomlinson, Richard Nye (England), and longtime guest Andrew Done (Switzerland).

Most of the hookups this week came on #10 Almost and #2 Carter Bugs.

Good luck to everyone heading out on the moose hunt, and to all who get to enjoy the Miramichi for the rest of the season!
