The second week of the season was filled with familiar faces as many of our returning clients made their annual journey to the Miramichi in pursuit of our world-renowned Atlantic salmon. Despite the chilly temperatures and brisk days on the water, those who pushed through were rewarded—proving once again that persistence pays off. Word along the river is that the fish are holding tight due to the colder conditions, but success has been reported all along the different branches, as well as the entire Main Southwest, after last years trap numbers being extremely low its starting to look like more fish came into the system after the season when conditions allowed with catches on the river!

We were also thrilled to welcome many new anglers who landed their very first Atlantic salmon! Each one was in awe of this incredible river system and the uniqueness of the species—now officially hooked and eager to return to the Miramichi.

At Country Haven, we feel so fortunate to host such a wonderful clientele from all over the world. This past week, we welcomed back the Pratt Construction group for their 13th season, and celebrated "Wild Bill" on his 17th trip and his 76th birthday! We also hosted a group that's been fishing the Miramichi for an incredible 30 seasons—proof of just how special and cherished the Atlantic salmon is worldwide.

Currently, the word on the river is that fish are being hooked and landed daily in the Blissfield and Doaktown areas. With colder water conditions and a nice raise in water levels as we write this, it looks like we’re set up for a relatively long and productive spring season. Salmon fishing is in full swing, and as we move into May, trout season will begin and striped bass will become more abundant by the day in the estuary.

So make sure to get out on the river in the coming days with friends and family and enjoy everything our amazing fishery has to offer on the world-famous Miramichi!
