The first week of the season brought some tough conditions—cold weather, rain, rising water levels, and even one wild day of crazy winds. Not exactly ideal for fishing. But even with all that, anglers still found success throughout the river system. Fish were caught from Boiestown to Quarryville, on the Renous, and up into the Cains. Many of the salmon landed were large, healthy fish—great signs for lots of eggs deposition last fall!
There were also plenty of trout reported, giving hope that our trout populations are adjusting by migrating out earlier in the year to avoid the ever-growing population of striped bass that flood the estuary every May.
Now, as the water warms up from freezing temperatures and the fish begin their journey toward Greenland, it’s truly the time to be on the Miramichi. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of hooking into an Atlantic salmon on this legendary river whether spring, summer or the fall season—a place that continues to bring families and friends back, generation after generation.
