This week was all over the map in terms of conditions and angling. Sunday and Monday had decent conditions with fish being landed by few anglers. Then we had a scorcher of a day followed then by wind and rain all over the province and massive thundershowers Wednesday night. Along with that storm came cooler weather and another raise in water which resulted in some terrific fishing at the tail end of the week. We only had a few anglers in camp but they had a great few days with Peter Graham, from PEI landing 3 in two days with one being a beautiful Cains River hookbill! Then Jason Andalo, from Massachusetts hooking 5 his last morning (losing three and landing two) before heading home. Like Peter, Jason too landed a beauty of August Salmon which is so great to see and you just never know what fishing conditions will bring in August. All in all, it was a pretty exciting end to another week on the Miramichi River system!

The long range weather forecast ahead is looking promising after a few hot days and some nice cooler temps forecasted with a few spurts of rain. That should hopefully get us through the summer period without too much warm water and soon enough we will be talking about the fall season as its right around the corner! It’s such an exciting time with the big male hookbill Salmon starting to appear in the river and it’s always exciting to land one of those beasts to get a pic with what looks like a modern day dinosaur!

Some flies of choice this week were the ever popular Green Machine, Cossebooms, Undertakers and in the high water, Red Frances flies which are most often fished in the fall but were just the ticket for Jason! As the season progresses fall flies such as Ally’s Shrimp, LT Special, Marabous and the Copper Killer will be the go to flies for anglers and guides in hopes of sparking a take by another Miramichi Giant!

The Guides out for a fish and making it look easy! lol
