What a difference the cooler weather and the Province-wide rain has made to our fishery! There weren’t been many anglers out on the river when the warm weather protocol was in place (restricting angling in cold water pools), but those who did venture out had some pretty good fishing all the same. And after last week’s heavy rain, rise in river heights and cooler temps the rivers were reopened on Friday and many anglers were back casting again in earnest! It was certainly a nice change to be fishing on the river in cooler weather and to once again see fresh fish coming in the system and the ones previously holding starting to move up river once again.

As soon as cold water pools opened again, several of our guides also managed to get out to wet a line and met with success hooking and landing both grilse and salmon. Flies of choice were white tail green machines, undertakers and white wing blue charm. With the higher water and cooler temps, the conditions certainly favoured wet fly fishing again but no doubt there will still be lots of dry fly fishing ahead in the next few weeks!

Country Haven had a very limited number of guests recently as there were wedding festivities taking place for our own Tyler Coughlan who exchanged wedding vows with his beautiful fiance Larissa! Tyler is the eldest son of lodge owners Byzie and Heather Coughlan, and he has been working in the business, in one way or another, for most of his life and is now one of our guides. It would come as no surprise to anyone who knows Tyler that in spite of the planned marriage ceremony on Saturday, he still managed to get out for a fish the day before and was successful in landing fish too!

But the biggest catch of the day for Tyler was landing Larissa, his new bride and the catch of a lifetime! We know that Larissa is very aware of Tyler’s fishing addiction mind you and she knows full well what she is getting herself into with this young man! Truthfully though we are more concerned for the newlywed Tyler, as Larissa has typically outfished him in recent years!!! From all of us at Country Haven we would like to offer the beautiful couple warm best wished for a lifetime of love and laughter!

Our anglers and guides are now looking forward to the fall season with lots of salmon in the river systems and looking forward to finding some on the end of their lines in the coming weeks! It’s a wonderful time of year to make memories of a lifetime on the amazing Miramichi River system!
