The Dog Days of summer are here on the Miramichi with above average temperatures and a lot of direct sun so there is not much to write about given that there are not many people on the river fishing. A few positives though are that people, whether they are fishing, canoeing, tubing, or cottaging, are seeing fish further up on the Cains and throughout the entire river. The amount of salmon has been above average for this time of the season and July was quite productive and with this rain falling now it should stay productive for remainder of season, especially into fall which is always a favorite time for fishing for many people and our guides.
Looking ahead this coming week looks positive with good amounts of rain and cooler weather so we are hopeful that we will see a lift in the cold water restrictions and then start to see fish pulling out of brooks to migrate farther upstream. In addition, the rain and water level increases will encourage fish in the tidal water to move up and into the river system.
Everyone is looking forward to the cooler weather ahead and hopefully, some good August and fall fishing on the Miramichi. This is when the Main river and its Tributaries such as Cains and Renous rivers are wonderful spots to be and our guides always look forward to later season as their favorite time of year with cooler temps, good numbers of fish and the beautiful scenery that the Miramichi river has to offer!
