The start of the summer salmon season has kicked off on the Miramichi, and it's already showing promise! Anglers are reporting an impressive number of striped bass in the tidal water areas, with some saying they’ve caught more bass than they ever imagined possible.
To add to the excitement, a few lucky fishermen have connected with sea-run trout making their way upriver. These elusive fish move fast through the system—timing is everything, and those in the right place at the right time were rewarded.
Recent weather has been ideal for late May and early June, with warm days, cool nights, and good rainfall helping to maintain excellent water conditions. With fewer anglers on the water so far, it's hard to get a complete picture of what’s moving through the system—but a few persistent salmon seekers have been lucky enough to hook into early arrivals. As the saying goes: you can’t catch fish if you’re not fishing for them!
The first confirmed salmon of the season was landed by Scott Cormier—a stunning 37-inch beauty, the undisputed king of the river!
June salmon are widely considered the freshest, hardest-fighting fish of the season. When you hook into one, you're not just fishing—you’re in for a battle you won't forget.
With prime conditions and the season just beginning, there’s no better time to hit the river. Whether you're chasing your first salmon or your personal best, now’s your chance to get into the fish of a lifetime.
