June 11th, 2022
The salmon are now arriving and while it is still early days, it seems like very good numbers for this time in June but without many fishers on the river just yet there aren’t many being hooked. That said, the people who are fishing are having some luck and we’ve heard rumours of a couple of groups of fishers who hooked multiple fish last weekend. This week however started out with heavy thunderstorms which resulted in the main river rising a couple of feet which made it a challenge to narrow in on the fish, although our first summer fishing guest arrived on Monday and saw fish in the pools he fished and he successfully landed the first Country Haven bright salmon of the season on Tuesday evening! All three of his days on the river he witnessed fish jumping and rolling in the river which is certainly great to report!
With each passing day now, the water levels are continuing to drop and the cool drizzly weather is enabling the water temps to remain cool too. The forecast is looking in the coming days which should make for some great June fishing conditions on the Miramichi. The Oldtimers around these parts always said that good numbers in late May and early June bode well for a strong run overall for the season which we all certainly hope proves to be true! You’ve got to be optimistic to be a salmon angler and we will hold on to any folklore that is positive! lol
We still have lots of stripers on the go in the system and now our the annual gaspereau and shad runs are starting which is always good to report too. June is a wonderful time to witness the many fish species that call the Miramichi home and even though we don’t fish for many of these species it is a positive indicator for the overall health of the river system itself.
We know folks are anxious to be out on the rivers wetting their lines and we are certainly optimistic that many will be rewarded with some great memories in 2022!
