We had another group of wonderful guests at the lodge and good conditions this past week but poor fishing which was unfortunate. Included in this week’s guests were long time fishing friends Thomas Woods from Washington & Bill Lockard from Virginia. The two friends started fishing together in Virginia at the age of 14 and although now separated by many miles are still fishing together after 60 years including an entire month this year in upstate New York with Andrew & Nancy Moy, on the Margaree River in Nova Scotia and with us on the Southwest Miramichi River.
Last week we experienced a heat wave with daytime temperatures in the high 90s F which resulted in the closure of cold water pools and some fishing restrictions that was unusual for the river in June. This past week we received some rain and cooler temperatures which resulted in perfect fishing conditions but the damage was already done from last week’s heat wave and we had no meaningful numbers of fresh fish entering the river system. Our long time friends, partners and guests, Andrew & Nancy Moy, owners of Tightlines Fly Shop in Parsippany NJ hosted a spey casting clinic which is always well received by the many guests who join us at Country Haven. We can’t say enough about the quality of folks who participated in the clinic this week and the dedication that Andrew & Nancy have to ensure everyone has a great experience even when the hooking is slow. All the same, a few anglers were lucky to hook up and more importantly everyone’s spey casting improved throughout the week and a good time was had by all! Thanks to everyone for your commitment to the sport and for being wonderful customers!
