Sunshine and leaping salmon made for an entertaining week on the Miramichi as we finally welcomed some beautiful weather! The fish were jumping all over the river system with fishermen hooking up and having some wonderful, fighting fish. The salmon were hitting mostly on Renous special bunny strips, blue smelts, and purple marabou flies. May is usually a month with a lot of fish in the 40-inch range that put up spectacular fights and with perfect water temps, they are feeding and have regained a little weight and have tons of strength. May is a great month for casting, as opposed to trolling, and as the water lowers and clears guests can fish with floating lines and sink tips. We also continue to troll but at a slightly higher speed which seems to trigger the bite and we have great results.

As the warmer temps increase the striped bass will continue to push up into the river system to spawn and it really is a unique experience to witness as fisherman, some days hooking more than anyone would expect! An additional benefit for our guests is that they can bring some of their catch back to the lodge and have our cook staff prepare a wonderful feed of fresh bass!

As the month rolls on, we will be hooking into some great numbers of big salmon and still catching a few big brookies as well as starting to get into more and more striped bass. We look forward to keeping you updated on the amazing Miramichi recreational fishery that we have which provides many fishers the experience of a lifetime!
