The lodge was full full full this past week with many of our repeat clients as well as new ones spending time making memories on the river! We finally managed to get a couple of warm sunny days and both the guides and the fisherman were thrilled to dry out and have some great fishing too! Many of our friends on the river were telling us that they too were having some wonderful salmon hookups including upriver in Boisetown and Doaktown and there were also terrific numbers of trout and salmon downriver in tidal areas. Many are thinking that perhaps the 2 year covid restrictions have resulted in trout numbers really bouncing back this year. Regardless of the why it sure is nice to see healthy numbers of trout in the system again. Many of our clients who come in May love to try their hand at catching brook trout and we’ve seen some nice 4 and 5 lb. ones being landed along with some very healthy spring salmon!
As the warmer days arrive, the water is gradually starting to warm up a few degrees and the black salmon are starting to work their way down the river system, becoming more aggressive and feeding as they do. This will result in many more kelt hook ups in the next week or two! And with excellent numbers of trout in the system this year, and the striped bass now working their way into the river to spawn, May is a wonderful time to be on the water with the possibility of recording a Miramichi Grand Slam (Salmon, Trout and Striped Bass in the same day!). There’s nothing quite like catching all three species in the same day and then letting our amazing cooks prepare some fresh bass that you caught for dinner while talking about the giant salmon and trout you landed that day! The Miramichi system is truly a place where incredible memories can be made!! Enjoy a few of the many recent fish pictures … feel free to reach out to us through our website to book dates for fishing this season … we will always find a way to fit you in!
