With the Spring Salmon Season now officially behind us, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who joined us on the water this year. It was a memorable spring along the river, and we truly appreciate all the anglers who helped make it such a special season at Country Haven.
While the spring run has come to a close, the river is far from quiet. Through May, fishing continues with steady action for Trout and Striped Bass, along with the occasional surprise of a late-run Salmon still making its way through the system. These in-between weeks offer a unique and peaceful time on the water, with changing conditions and fewer crowds.
But what we are truly looking forward to is just around the corner.
June marks the arrival of the early run of wild Atlantic Salmon-fresh from the sea, powerful, bright, and aggressive. These fish are bound for the upper reaches of the Miramichi River System, and many will tip the scales between 15–22 lbs. Pound for pound, they are among the hardest-fighting salmon of the entire season, and for many anglers, the most memorable encounter of the year. Also, it gives you a chance to win the First Bright Miramichi Salmon of the Year Award by the MSA.
There is a special feeling that comes with that first salmon of June. It is more than a catch-it is a marker that the summer run has truly begun, and every swing of the fly carries the possibility of something unforgettable.
We are especially excited to share that our latest River Report includes a photo of the first salmon caught at Country Haven last season-a moment that captures the start of the June run and the anticipation that follows it every year.
To get you inspired for what lies ahead, we are also revisiting a collection of “first fish” moments from the past eleven June seasons. Each one tells the same story: when that first bright salmon appears, everything changes on the river.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Country Haven for what promises to be another exciting start to the summer run. A trip to the Miramichi should include a visit of our local fly shops, W.W. Doak in Doaktown and Curtis Miramichi Outfitters in Blackville and also of the Atlantic Salmon Museum in Doaktown.
