As the 2024 salmon season comes to an end, it is a bit challenging to come up with some positive sentiments. To sum it up, this was a tough season … we experienced a drought which resulted in low warm water which are not conditions that suit Atlantic Salmon. As a result, we experienced the toughest fishing that the river has ever seen. The final week of the 2024 season we did finally get some rain and a bump in the river height which was too little too late for anglers but is so important for the migration of fish in the river. We hope that the rise of water helped the salmon in the Bay and is enabling them a chance to migrate up the river in order to spawn. It’s hard to believe that last year this time we were dealing with high water and that this year we are just happy to get some water to enable the fish to come into the river. In the business of Outfitting, as with all businesses that rely on Mother Nature, you just never know from one year to the next how things will unfold.

Although 2024 had its struggles, we have so much to be thankful for including 25 years in business which is only possible because of our amazing guests. Please see the attached image too which lists the winners of our Anniversary prize draw to celebrate our year … we will be in touch soon if you are a winner! Even though we experienced poor conditions this year, we once again welcomed so many wonderful repeat & new guests visit this season. As the owner of Country Haven, I will never be able to express the gratitude that I have for your patronage and I do sincerely appreciate each and every one of you who visited and thank those who have once again rebooked for next season! We all remain hopeful that next season will be better and that the conditions will be much improved … Lord knows that they certainly can’t get much worse! LOL

The way that Atlantic salmon brings together people from all walks of life to our small village for days and weeks each season and the connections that are formed with all of you are pretty amazing and appreciated. We have never, nor will we ever, take our customers or employees for granted … we appreciate you all. We have people from around the globe who call on Country Haven each year but this year I would like to pay a special thanks to Andrew & Nancy Moy from www.tightlinesflyfishing.com in New Jersey who continue to arrange groups to come here each year … you do so much for us when you bring these wonderful groups and undertake the spey clinics and we simply want to say thanks for all you do for Country Haven each and every year!

That’s a wrap on the 2024 season … until next year, Be Well & Tight Lines! Byzie & The Country Haven Team
