Fall Fishing Off to a Great Start on the Miramichi
So far, the start of our fall season has been a great success. We haven't received as much rain as we had hoped for, but cooler weather has brought good fishing conditions, with plenty of grilse landed, some nice salmon landed (or lost), and most importantly, many happy guests.
A returning group from Nova Scotia, who have been fishing with us for 10 years, called this their best trip to the Miramichi yet. Patrick Strong from Massachusetts also enjoyed some excellent fishing, limiting out almost daily over four days and calling it his best fishing in six years of coming to the Miramichi.
With just over a month remaining before the season closes on October 15, things are looking much more promising than they have over the past couple of fall seasons. There are good numbers of fish throughout the system, particularly in the lower stretches of the river. We could still use a good rainfall to improve conditions on the tributaries, especially the Renous and everyone's favourite fall river, the Cains.
Interestingly, the fish are still taking many of the smaller summer patterns, while dry-fly fishing with Bombers continues to produce some exciting action. There's nothing quite like watching a Wild Atlantic Salmon rise and take a fly off the surface.
The ladies have now arrived for our Annual Ladies Retreat, and what a fantastic group they are! It's always a special way to kick off September at Country Haven.
We still have a few fishing dates available between now and October 15. If you've been thinking about a fall trip to the Miramichi, this is a beautiful time of year to be on the river.
