This past week brought some cooler nights and a good bump of water which made for decent some fishing to end off August and things are setting up great for our fall season on the Miramichi. Anglers this past week saw lots of salmon jumping and rolling and manged to land a few either on traditional fall fly patterns such as Ally Shrimps and LT Specials as well as our old favourites such as Undertakers and Green Machines. Dry flies also proved successful this past week throughout the Cains River stretches which is in excellent shape and river temps ranging from 64F in the main run and 58F in cold water pool sections. On the main southwest Miramichi, Black Brook Lodge was hooking into some nice fresh fish with sea lice on them, some being gorgeous male salmon which if often an indicator of the start of the fall run. We also heard from friends in the tidal water area seeing fresh fish jumping as they start into the fresh water and with the full moon next weekend we should soon have a push of fresh salmon coming into the system to begin our full fall run on the Miramichi.
Our guides, cooks and anglers always look forward to the fall season with beautifully coloured salmon, shots at big hookbill males and of course the beautiful change of colour along the river banks. Overall this year, we’ve enjoyed a good season and good numbers of fish as seems to be the case in most salmon rivers this year. We look forward to seeing many of our returning guests this fall and to welcome some new comers excited to make memories and we all hoping we can close out 2022 with a memorable fall for landing Atlantic salmon!
