After a big rain mid week with the river flushed out the remaining shore ice and fouled up one day of fishing with shore debris and grass. However once the river began to drop and clear, good fishing started again and many fisherman were limiting out daily, throughout the river system from Boiestown to Quarryville. Flies of choice were purple marabou, Renous Specials and Magog Smelt patterns. All of the fish looked to be very healthy and have wintered well with great mixture of both grisle and salmon being landed. With the number of fish being hooked it appears that the last fall run had very good numbers and bodes well for the future of the river system.

The upcoming weather this week looks like some more rain and cooler that normal weather although this should maintain the river at great height well into May. This will also enable the fish to keep working their way down the system, and with almost three weeks remaining in the spring kelt fishery, it’s a great time to try your hand at catching some monster spring salmon!

With trout season opening up on May 1st, and Striped Bass now entering the river system as well, May will be a excellent time to get onto the river and try your hand at catching all of Miramichi’s big 3 in the same day. Good luck to all fishers!
