It’s been a quieter week for fishing on the Miramichi, as warm weather and high water temperatures kept many anglers off the river. Instead, most visitors turned to canoeing, kayaking, and tubing to enjoy the beautiful summer days.
Thankfully, cooler weather and rain over the weekend and into early this week brought improved conditions. Some guests got back on the water—and those who did were rewarded.
One highlight came from young Samie Duis, who flew in from Germany on Sunday and was landing his first summer-run Atlantic Salmon on the Miramichi by Monday morning! This boy is truly gifted when it comes to fishing—he’s landed more Atlantics in just a few short visits over the past five seasons than many anglers do in an entire summer.
In July and August, as water temperatures rise and more fish hold in pools, dry flies become the go-to choice for many anglers. While the next couple of days are expected to stay warm, the long-range forecast looks promising, starting early next week. And with cold-water pools reopening tomorrow, we could be in for some great days of fishing ahead.
When you visit us at Country Haven, we offer a wide selection of equipment—rods, waders, and flies (many tied by our expert guides Ian Cavanagh and Darryl Tucker)—for you to use during your stay.
If you're thinking of visiting the Miramichi and want to bring your own gear, we’re proud to recommend three of the best locally owned fly shops in the region:
W.W. Doak
Curtis Miramichi Outfitters
Syd at Trout Brook Fly shop
We also work closely with several excellent U.S. fly shops. One of our top recommendations is Tight Lines Fly Fishing in New Jersey https://www.tightlinesflyfishing.com/ . Andrew and Nancy Moy, along with their staff, have been fishing with us on the Miramichi for nearly 20 years and can offer great advice on what to bring for your trip.
