What would a season on the Miramichi be like without three of our most dedicated and beloved fishermen—Charlie Mosher (95), Bob Mosher (85), and Robert Widgren, who has traveled from Albuquerque, New Mexico for the past 20 years to fish with us? Their passion and commitment to the river and to the Atlantic Salmon are truly inspiring.
Each season, we are lucky to welcome back so many returning guests from around the world—many of them older anglers who have the Miramichi in their blood. They never give up on the Atlantic Salmon and always look forward to "next year." If only the DFO and some conservation groups had the same drive and love for wild Atlantic Salmon as these loyal guests do.
Country Haven is truly blessed to have such a wonderful clientele of long time returning guests like Arial & Shya Kane (NJ), Tony Spratt (England), Jason Andalo (Massachusetts), Richard Ostrowski (Maine), and Roland Fitzgerald (Yarmouth, NS) have all been fishing with us for close to 20 years.
This past week, we haven't seen as many large salmon as in June, but fresh grilse continue to arrive with each tide. July fishing is always dependent on conditions, but we are still getting good results using #6 and #8 wet flies. We're also starting to see more action on dry flies and expect that to increase as fish begin to hold more steadily in the river through the rest of the month.
Here's to the people, the passion, and the power of the Miramichi.
