As we count down the days toward the end of another fishing season, this past week turned out better than expected despite the continued low water and lack of rain. Fish or no fish, it’s always a great week when the Tightlines Flyfishing group is in camp!
The group of eleven anglers all hooked fish, with nearly everyone landing at least one. High rods of the week were Tom Grimes from Montana and Randy McAllister from Kansas, who combined for an impressive a dozen salmon landed—especially remarkable after not seeing a fish for the first two days. That’s salmon fishing for you: right place, right time, and a touch of luck!
With the low water holding steady, the warmer weather over the last few days has slowed the action a bit, but the forecast brings good news—rain and cooler temperatures are starting today and are expected to continue through the end of the season. Add in the recent full moon and high tides, and we are hopeful for a push of fresh fish and happy anglers to close out another memorable Miramichi fall.
The most productive flies this week were the #8 Bonnie Bell and the Red Francis, both drawing steady takes in the clearer water.
We kicked off this week with guests from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Texas, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. We love welcoming both new and returning guests - but we have to admit, we sure enjoy the Hershey chocolate our Pennsylvania friends bring each year!
Here’s to rain, cool nights, and a strong finish to another great season at on the Mighty Miramichi!
